Welcome to Haus Alpina – your family-run apartment house in the heart of Mallnitz. For generations, our house has stood for genuine hospitality , alpine comfort , and personal service.
Our traditional house has been passed down through the decades and maintained with great care – today we are creating a place where families, couples and nature lovers feel completely at ease.
Whether hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park in summer or skiing on the Ankogel in winter – with us, the experience begins right outside the door.

Our story
1958
1958 – The beginnings: The original building – then known as the Gatterer department store & guesthouse – was already a popular meeting place for guests who spent their summer holidays in Mallnitz.
A piece of living history that laid the foundation for our hospitality today.
1960
1960 – The first major milestone: The Gatterer department store and guesthouse is expanded for the first time. On the right, a new dining room is built to accommodate the growing number of holidaymakers , while on the left, the department store is expanded and henceforth operates as a SPAR franchise. This photograph documents the beginning of a new chapter – marked by great vision and entrepreneurial courage.
1968
Milestone 1968 : With a further expansion of our house, the Gatterer family laid the foundation for being able to welcome even more holidaymakers to Mallnitz. This historical photo shows how a small family business gradually became a place of relaxation for many – right in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
1976
A journey back in time to the 70s: A glimpse into the SPAR store in the Alpina from 1976 – with original interior furnishings and typical products of that era. Even back then, the Gatterer family supplied guests and locals with everything their hearts desired.

A look back: The in-house bar at Alpina Apartments in 1980 – with the then hosts Elisabeth and Siegfried Gatterer and their eldest son Werner. Even back then, hospitality was a family affair for us – and it remains so to this day.
Today
Following the last comprehensive renovation, further modernizations and thoughtful adjustments were made. Today, our guests have access to 7 comfortable apartments in Mallnitz – ideal for anyone seeking peace and quiet in our idyllic mountain village and wishing to experience the unspoiled nature of the Hohe Tauern up close.
